Best local tv station
March 26th, 2008My favorite tv station is now… ASU TV; which has something to do with ASU and it’s a tv station. And it’s an odd thing.
I’m puzzled about just what they are trying to be or do here.
ASU TV shows classroom lectures (horrible!), guest lectures (horrible!), other kinds of lectures (horrible!), and public affairs stuff which aren’t very good either, and in the evening they show an old movie. At nine or ten pm. Who the hell is watching ASU TV at nine in the evening? Old movies that I can’t imagine anyone of college age watching.
I watch though, in spite of the lousy prints, which in the end add pleasantly to the retro feel I get watching. Sixties era quality.
Not so much different than when I was in college myself, seventies era. Five local stations and at least two of them, the public channel and one of the networks, showed honest to goodness old movies regularly.
Some of the movies ASU TV shows are terrific, some campy, and they seem to have only about a dozen which they rotate in groups week by week; all Cary Grant movies one week, Hitchcock another.
I get quite a kick out of watching, and they are my new favorite tv station.
